In The Tampa Bay Community
YANKEES TAMPA FOUNDATION, INC
The mission of the Yankees Tampa Foundation is to promote and sustain a cordial, cooperative relationship between the New York Yankees and its neighbors, and working together to enhance the life throughout the surrounding community.
The Yankees have contributed to the community through this philanthropic organization since 1973. Under the direction of the Steinbrenner family, the Foundation has raised over $4 million for athletic, recreational and educational programs for young people. Some of the organizations that receive assistance from the Foundation include the Urban League, Boys Club, Boy Scouts, Big Brothers, Catholic Youth Organizations, Police Athletic League, Special Olympics, Children's Health Fund, the YMCA and numerous other programs.
Steinbrenner Family Annual Children's Holiday Concerts
As the holidays roll around each year, the Steinbrenner Family and the New York Yankees begin to spread Christmas cheer. The two organizations host the Childrens Holiday Concert which consists of three free concerts in the Tampa Bay area entertaining over 5,000 children from third to fifth grade. At the concerts, the Florida Orchestra plays traditional holiday classics and students are introduced to ballet performances and a special guest reading of “The Night Before Christmas.” Afterwards, each child receives presents given by the Steinbrenner Family, law enforcement officers, members of the concert cast and the Yankees players themselves. This longstanding tradition between the Steinbrenner Family, Yankees organization, Florida Orchestra and the Ballet Theater International has been happening for almost 30 years and with each event, the excitement continues to grow.
HOPE Week (Helping Others Preserve & Excel) is rooted in the fundamental belief that acts of goodwill provide hope and encouragement to more than just the recipient of the gesture. Held annually at Steinbrenner Field, HOPE Week shines a spotlight on a different individual, family or organization worthy of recognition and support. HOPE Week is designed so honorees can share their inspirational stories with Yankees players, fans and the media, while being surprised with the day of their dreams. In addition to bringing attention to the honorees’ inspirational endeavors, the Yankees make a $10,000 donation to the HOPE Week recipient’s non-profit organization.
